Apparently it is a small gear that runs the hour meter that goes for sh.t.I got mine repaired at Forster Instruments in Mississauga Ontario Can.I am not sure if they have a US depot or not.

Graeme where did you get your pump from?
I did the same thing years ago On our twin engine Amberjack.I used a single direction pony pump from Princess Auto. The impeller was not made for oil but worked fine until the boat burned to the waterline when we were caught in a marina fire.
I see it is a gear pump which I would like to use.

I used our porta power jack. I mounted it between the front engine mount base on the stringer up to the coolant reservoir bracket close to the engine.

We used Wesco 7 years ago.You get what you pay for.I felt they were very thorough. I think it was Bill who came to do the survey.
    Good luck with your purchase.Bob

This is what I done to test the core and aftercooler after assembly. I thought I had a better picture of the test of the assembled cooler but you will still get the idea. Bob

If you still haven’t got the core out of the casing try using a 3&1/2 ” abs plastic pipe coupler. It makes a very good drift to finish getting the core out the rest of the way.It will sit right on the edge of the brass of the core. After it is through the coupler might be a little tight coming out of the casing but not a real problem.
Mine was stuck so bad I ended up heating the whole cooler in the barbecue and then pouring cold water down the core quickly to shrink the core before the casing cooled down. Then pounded it out with a sledge hammer.I was lucky and had minimal damage to the core.It sounds like you will just need to coach yours out as you have been doing but using the drift to get that last 1/2 ” out.

Sorry for the delay with aftercooler progress.I had a machinist take off about 25 thou total from top and bottom of the casing. The core itself needed repair, probably from all the pounding.Searched around for some o-rings and found a couple 5 inch diameter and .156 thick.Made up my own testing equipment for future use and reassembled with lots or lithium grease and tested.Held at 15  lbs.psi for 6 hours.Thankyou for all your suggestions.Bob

I was surprised to find substantial impeller debris in the intake hose between the pump and strainer.

Tony is there a documented minimum length of the casing so I can try and stay within those tolerances so as not to have to mess with cutting back the core length.

Robb I just cleaned the crude off the surface.  By the sounds of it it won’t hurt to go a little further And be a little more aggressive.

Here are some pictures of top and bottom of the casing and the caps. There is some pitting. Hopefully it is not to bad. The core is at the rad shop to be cleaned and tested. It won’t be back for another week.

I finally got it apart. After two days of heating it up and cooling the core  down with water while the casing was still hot. The core actually looks pretty clean but the casing has got some corrosion around the top and bottom.

Yes the other one did come out but not without doing some damage to the core. The rad shop was able to repair it.I would like to keep this one in good shape  with no damage.
In my general area there is nobody that I can find that knows anything about a marine after cooler.
Rob the housing is in good shape very little pitting.

I had to completely remove the hose from the strainer to the pump and give it a shake. I got 7 or 8 pieces of impeller and a key for a impeller. Not mine but from the previous owner. It was possibly the cause of the demise of my impeller. Bob
