Absolutely stoked to have signed up here. I apologize for the Yanmar question, but I know at one point Tony offered a fuel cooler elimination for the 6lp. My General Marine has an above deck fuel tank on the stern so I was thinking about eliminating my fuel cooler. Does anyone know who sells a kit or would SBMAR be willing to make one up for me?

Thereā€™s nothing to bleed, the fuel cooler is on the fuel return side not the supply. Air is of no concern. You could shoot the return fuel into a bucket and then pour it into the deck fill and the engine wouldnā€™t know the difference…

Just found this. Will this work to bleed the air after swapping the fuel cooler?

The boat is still out of the water so I decided to replace the fuel cooler with the one that has a zinc. I will bypass it during the summer and see what I get for fuel temperature without it. I do have a question though, since I replaced the fuel cooler do I need to crack an injector to bleed any air out of the system?

At the beginning of this thread you said you have above deck tank. You also said you were thinking of removing it ( the cooler)……………..What not just by-pass the fuel cooler for a normal trip and see how hot your fuel tank gets ( or, how hot it does not get).. If the fuel going to the engine after a long day, when the fuel level is low in the tank is under 100-110F, IMO, you do not need a fuel cooler..

To bypass it, just remove the 2 fuel lines going to it and splice them together using a barb-to-barb connection.

    So simple.

Yes that will do the job. I know the name but have no personal experience with their products.

Rob Iā€™m just curious would this fuel cooler work? Itā€™s a third of the price of the OEM one.

I’d go with an OEM. Seaboard does not stock Yanmar parts. Try Bayshore Marine in MD, they have good inventory and good prices. The mounting bracket is different too but if memory serves you should be able to use your mount with the new fuel cooler. Just be sure to orient the cooler body so you can get the zinc out/in. You should be able to get in that plug with a very small flat blade and release the wire and reuse it. You can check with Bayshore on that too if needed.

Thank You Rob. Do you suggest an OEM fuel cooler or an aftermarket one with a zinc? I found the wire thatā€™s cut clean at the plug, I just donā€™t know if I can reuse the plug or have to order a new one. Iā€™m not sure what the part number would be. I attached some more pictures.

Yes on the part number. Based on the location of that plug it could be part of the WIF circuit. You should have a WIF switch screwed into the bottom of the engine mounted fuel strainer. Trace the circuit from that.

Thank You Rob. I appreciate the help. So the top part number you gave me is the one I want? Also do you have any idea what this plug is or part number? I noticed the wire going to it is cut. Can I reuse the plug?

That’s the el’ cheapo. No zinc and notice the cooler body does not have the threaded boss for the fuel barb connection as does the better OEM. Replace with the better OEM unit or delete it… Good catch.

If you have the fuel cooler (part # 119773-55760) in the pic that Tony posted that is a quality unit and I personally would not worry much about it.

However, some 6LP’s are out these with this cheesy version (part # 119773-55800), no zinc port and as cheap as cheap can be. These are the time bomb’s, not the one you have.

If you’re dead set on it, It would be an easy delete since all you would need is a proper length of 1.5″ tubing with beaded ends. And the return fuel connections are just cut hoses on barb fittings…

Yes thatā€™s what I have. I just removed my heat exchanger, aftercooler, and tranny cooler in order to clean them. While there I was wondering if I should replace my fuel cooler or maybe delete it to avoid a failure that could be costly down the road. On a side note I was going to replace the transmission cooler as a precaution. I see that you offer a transmission replacement kit, is the cooler itself a better quality than other ones on the market?
