I am helping someone with electric cabling concerns with putting in new Volvo D4 300’s and mating HS63AE-C transmissions. The engines have a transmission wiring harness that includes the A & B for forward and reverse but also one marked ‘rev-sensor’.

From what I have found it looks like that rev-sensor connector is for trolling valve type transmissions and it is used to monitor the output shaft RPM. I think the HS63s are really Hurst ZF85As and that these just do not have a trolling feature and therefore do not have a output shaft rev connection.

I have googled it but cannot seem to find out if this is true and certainly do not wish to just ignore.

Any help in identifying if the above is true would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

    Hello Matt,

Welcome aboard. Ā Thanks for posting and for following up with the additional pics. Ā You are correct in your last post that there is no trolling valve on that gearbox and that connector will not be used. Ā The harness is simply built as “one size fits all (or most)”. Ā The troll valve would be item #11 on this image..

Thanks for replying Tony and for the update on the right part #s.Ā  I do not think the transmission has the feature but am posting 2 pics below and hoping you can confirm.

If that is the case I guess that connection on the harness is not used ?

You gear is a ZF63A, not a ZF85A.. It has electric shift and could have the troll feature but I cannot tell from the pic you posted.. Too close up……..I need to see the COMPLETE valve assembly from a couple of angles to ID..

Although I do not know Volvo Lingo or wiring, it would make sense the the REV SENSOR would be part of the harness-But with that said, it may or may not be used depending on whether this gear has the troll valve feature installed–It’s a option..
