    Quick question.
Can a Sherwood M71 Seawater Pump be used on a 4BTA?

Engine serial numbers 46038383 and 46043905.

    Thank you,

    Dominic Garofolo

Thanks Mr. Athens, Love the new site!

I could never exactly figure out why the sea max pump wouldn’t work either, but your pictures cleared it up for me.

    Foot note:
I installed one of these Sherwood strainers on each raw water intake, (see attached), about 4 years ago, and haven’t had a pump go bad on me since. Not saying it would work for everyone but it worked for me.

    Thanks,

Cumming 4BTA 3.9 Seawater pump issues

It will not Physically FIT or clear the injection pump…………………………….Basically, Sherwood took a GC1 or GC5 Pump and made a totally Mickey Mouse” extension piece to move it aft about 4 inches so it would clear the Injection pump assembly… Very poor design, extremely un-reliable, and it’s “proprietary” to this engine and is not sold to any of there dealers/distributors, only to Cummins……………………………….. Some pics attached to help you understand what you are up against………………..You might take this up with Sherwood, although I’d guess it will fall on deaf ears..
