I’m Thinking of re-powering my 43 Delta Marine with a pair of 380 hp 5.9 qsb Cummins. Wondering if anyone is running these in their 43 Delta’s? If so, what kind of speed/fuel economy would I expect? And if you would have any thoughts on wether it would be a large enough displacement engine to last a few thousand hours of commercial use? Currently the boat has 210 hp 3208 cats. Cruise is 12 knots, WOT is 15 knots.

    Thanks!

    QSB 5.9's

    Caleb,

I have not repowered a 43 Delta with QSB 5.9’s, but for sure they will do you right if set up proper from Day 1.. I have plenty of them out there with well over 10,000 hours of them in commercial use.. Earlier this year I removed a pair from this vessel ( Aloha Spirit — https://www.channelislandssportfishing.com/aloha-spirit-sportfishing ) with right at 30,000 hours on them (all original) .. Still running daily but he got a grant to repower with QSB 6.7 T3 engines..

Set them up right, and you’ll be able to cruise at or above your WOT speed now and get well over 10,000 hours on them with zero issues, besides seeing and major increase in fuel economy if you travel as existing speeds..

The key to this engine or any engine in this class is how you set them up initially as to engine loads at your vessel cruise speed and how maintain them..

    Tony
