    Hi from the East Cost,

I have been considering to re-power the 99 shamrock 26′ express from the 5.7 gas Sea max for long time to power Diesel to get more fuel efficiency per Gal and long range .

what is the right eng application or the right fit for this 99 26′ Express.

Is Cummins like 6BT 215hp~250hp with the current ZF to keep the existing 1 1/4 shaft will be the right fit for this project ?

what is the cost associated with it assuming the existing Zf will do the job.
Would i really achieve the goal i am after with fuel consumption and range. Currently i am getting around 2mpg and that is ruff guess could be less or right on

Is there any other Engines of a choice that will provide better weight , efficiency ,Most important reliability at decent price.

i will be doing all the the work. But i like to hear all your thoughts specially from members who done it and the Cummins experts on here.

Thanks in advance . i will follow with some pic of the Eng bay soon

I have a friend that has that has that same boat with a cummins 6b 210. They came as a option. To me putting a diesel in a boat like this is a great project. Is it always the right choice?? Going from gas to diesel requires a lot of work. Some of these boats with a diesel in it might be a better way to go. Not trying to burst your bubble just putting it in perspective. I would do a little research and there is a owners club with a ton of info.

Few more pictures showing the current Eng mount points which can be worked if i need to custom build a new mount . The transmission for some to help identify.

I have done so many conversions in the past, eng build, swap and transmission rebuild . can this ratio on those Zf’s be modified or the parts not interchangeable in case i find out that my existing gear box not cable of doing what it should with the new platform ?

As far as the exhaust goes since i have dual straight shot and with the Diesel conversion i will end up with one from the Turbo back i was considering a Y pipe to split it to dual if that is a possibility and the room will allow it but i have enough space towards the rear bulkhead

Few attached pic to show the general space below deck.

Sub deck comes off completely and provide huge access to every thing

Transmission I believe it’s ZF although there is no ID plate

    Shaft is 1 1/4”
    New stuffing box
New split coupler, shaft was recently machined

I am turning the factory wheel and have to measure it during my next dive
Tanks are in top notch shape with new sending units

Definitely need to start the assessment process with pictures and all of the technical details of the existing running gear (transmission, shaft, prop, etc etc.)
