Hi to you all. Just was told about a impeller installation tool sold by impellertool.com. Guy said it was the bomb for install. Have not priced it yet but wonder if anyone has ever ordered and used this prior to me diving in. Cummins 6BT 5.9M. Sherwood 10615 impeller, key style.

    Thanks, John

    Yes, it works as advertised

I bit the bullet and bought the impellertool.com last year after wrestling with my port engine impeller (really difficult access = no leverage).
Like everyone, I’ve tried hose clamps, zip ties, lube, and brute force… yeah, that works, but I always lost some skin on my knuckles and created a few new combinations of cuss words!

Only caution is that it still takes a little effort to hold the impeller in place on the shaft as you pull the tool back out of the pump – leaving the new impeller in the pump housing.

    Jeff.

Follow up to your question Tony

    Hi Tony,

I just posted another question regarding the Sherwood M-71 pump. Area around it is not bad but it seems to be the type of pump that needs to be removed in order to change impeller. No cover plate. So, any help would be great. Thanks so much.

    Thank guys.

Sorry for the delay. Work, ya know! I will check access Tony but I think it is pretty good. Thanks again for the get back.

    pretty fancy

    That looks expensive. http://impellertool.com/

I use a smooth hose clamp to compress and lube to help slide it in…ala Whitesnake

    Impeller install tool

Got a picture or a link?

How is you access to the pump? That’s a really big part of the equation.
