Have a pair that need service. I can’t find much info on servicing them. Removing them looks like another kick in the nuts to the engineers at cummins. Not the greatest access on the port side. Can this be done in place relitivly easy? Any tips would be great.

Unfortunately you can’t get the bundle out without removing the entire assembly.

Yes there is some extra steps to remove the fuel/gear cooler to get to the aftercooler mounting bolts. Remove the seawater plumbing tubes from the gear/fuel cooler but not the oil lines. Then just remove the fuel/gear cooler mount bolts (hint – there should be 9 bolts) and let it drop down so you have access to the aftercooler mounting bolts.

Make sure tompressure test after final assembly to ensure all is correct.

Yes I realize that. Just much difffert with all he hard piping the double cooler beneath it does not help either with access to the attach bolts. Just want to put together a plan of attack and was wondering if it was feasible to do it in place.

The horizontal are the same service procedure as the vertical.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve done many of the b and c series vertical after coolers. These are the horizontal cooler. Have not done one of these before. I tried to post some pics but they were to large.

Removing the coolers is not too bad actually. Remove sone plumbing, drop the g cooler for access to the aftercooler mounting bolts (no need to disconnect oil lines), remove the aftercooler. To be done right it must be removed from the engine. As for port engine access that’s not Cummins fault, and I suggest doing the starboard first so you know exactly what to do on the port with restricted visibility.

Lots on this site written on how to service the aftercooler properly. Other than shape not much difference between servicing a B aftercooler and a Q etc…

Make sure and post pictures along the way and we will be glad to help you as well as offer advice and answer any questions.
