Has anyone done a engine flush on QSC 8.3? Are there any video’s available or some do’s and dont list?
    Any help would be appreciated.
My approach would be to back flush from the water discharge through to the seawater pump to the sea water strainer. (first I would remove the impeller and put impeller cap back on). The system would then have a closed loop system through the seawater strainer(strainer removed and flush cap on strainer). There is also a cooling hose going to shaft. I think that should be blocked off as well. I have a 20 gallon tank with a pump that has 1 1/4 inch inlet and 1 inch outlet. The pump is variable speed so I can control volume and speed. Not sure how mush cleaning solution should be used or how long to run the flush.
Any thing to add please feel free.

20 years of “Marine Age” & 6600 hrs on a pair of very complex high output Yanmar Marine Diesels ??

There are a few answers to this ( proper install, proper maintenance and the total absence of the “Nut Behind the wheel” ) but one thing for sure stands out beyond all

    “FRESH WATER FLUSH”

    No heat exchanger repairs
    No aftercooler repairs
    No gear cooler repairs
    No oil cooler repairs
Also no replacements of any of those.

Thanks, you have proved this beyond any doubt.

    Just hit 6,600 hours.
    Virtually no glitches.
Coming up with 20 years of service.
    Fresh water flush does wonders.
    No heat exchanger repairs
    No aftercooler repairs
    No gear cooler repairs
    No oil cooler repairs
Also no replacements of any of those.

Not too many BFT this year. A few big ones earlier this year. We have pretty much switched to fishing swordfish. Something new and different. Attached are a few picture.

The QSC factory seawater pump inlet is made for 2.5″ ID hose.. Read that for what it’s worth..

So, how many over 100 lb BF have to landed this year on AUDAX?

    A question for Tony,
What is the size of the hose between the strainer and the seawater pump on a QSC?
    Thanks

I have QSC 500’s on a new to me Searay. I have been using a Graco flushing cap and it has been working fine.
Since this is a plastic cap and is intended to be used for flushing only I have ordered 2 bronze caps from this site that are made by Seaboard with 3/4 inch gate valves to install permanently. Then to flush I will only need to hook up a hose and turn on the valve. Since they are still in transit I will post the results when I use them.
We do have great dockside water pressure and I use a 3/14″ hose which helps with the water flow.
