NL 10kW model M843JK. Had a few drips near electrical end first. Worsened after oil change then seemed to stop. Changed out exhaust elbow and when running to check after that found this dripping. Thoughts?

    follow up

Decided to remove some oil to get level back to closer to low mark on stick. Leak stopped, gen running fine and also on close inspection of stick found someone prior had scratched a faint mark not midway between full and low but closer to low mark so suspect this was seen by a prior owner. Thanks for help and glad this was all it was.

    thanks

The recent oil change i filled back close to the full mark on stick whereas I usually only go to half way between the full and add marks. Will watch and monitor as a rear main seal leak will mean that genset has to be pulled from engine room and only want to do that if convinced seal is the issue. Thanks for the response.

Generator ends do not leak oil.. The oil that can leak from the comes from 2 sources..

    1) The main real seal on the the engine crankshaft–Not very common

    2) From oil mist in the engine room that gets sucked into the rear generator end vents , accumulates and builds up inside the generator end itself over time and then will drip out.. IMO, more common

From looking at the pics, it seems more like #1 as usually “accumulated” oil vapors are darker?

Have you over filled the generator engine? IMO, Running on the low mark is always best.

    Next———————-WWM! ( wait, watch, & monitor)
