    Guys, (this is my first diesel boat so sorry for the dumb questions)I have a Cummins 5.9 6BTA5.9 and just added the SMX digital gauges. I am trying to figure out what sensors I need and their placement on the motor. I bought the kit but just seeing if I should add anything else.

    1st pic there is one sensor there and one next to it with nothing hooked up
    2nd pic at the top there is 2 brass fitting coming out with nothing hooked up
    3rd pic is the sensor with bad wires (what is it)
    4th pick not sure what it is but would like to replace

    Boat info 199 29ft Seavee

    thanks in advance for the help!

    I really want to help, but you need to be way better picture wise…………Take better pictures, hold the camera steady and level, and hold it in a position so I can’t see what there in to see. I cannot see around a corner.

    Send them to me direct..

    .But, from the little I can “see” your engine will have to be rewired–I see at least two things that are “boat builder mods” and I suspect if you want SMX digitals to work, you will be into new senders and new wiring per Cummins Factory………..

    What exact instruments did you have previously? Post pictures of the old gauges, etc..

    Our panels ( digital or analog) only work with the 3 proper senders (VDO coolant and Oil pressure and working Mag pickup), and with the engine wired per factory factory OEM wiring ( diagrams on this web site).

    #1 — Not sure what the other sensor is but that area is typically for the coolant temp sending unit. One of those may be a switch? Not sure…

    #2 — Cant see any fittings in that picture?

    #3 — Can’t see anything here either…

    #4 — That is the magnetic pickup that is used to send a tach signal up to the gauge and/or operate the engine pre-heater (if it is a DUAL output pickup)

    ======================================

    Have you located the oil pressure sending unit? Is the on-engine wiring generally in good shape?
