    I manage the wooden tall ship Enterprize in Melbourne Australia. The engine is a Cummins 6 BTA 250 HP, engine number 60264364.

    The current exhaust system has pin hole leeks developing to larger holes in the inner dry pipe, the surrounding wet jacket appears to be OK. I have a new exhaust system being finalised, however while to old system had the inner dry pipe made of 3 mm the new exhaust is made from 7 mm pipe. This has resulted in a significant increase in weight, from 62 kg to 105 kg and has reduced the inside size of the exhaust pipe from 80 mm to 73.5 mm approximately 17% reduction in exhaust flow capacity.
    My questions are:
    1. what impact is the additional weight likely to have on the connection to the engine as it is not possible to support it in a sling from above;
    2. Is the new reduced size exhaust going to cause excessive back pressure on the engine or will it have enough capacity not to affect the performance and / or safety of the engine;
    3. What is the recommended size and or minimum size of exhaust pipe for this engine.
    Your thoughts and experience will be much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Michael
