So I want to buy a Sabre 42 flybridge, I want the planing speed, the look, the quality and the fly. I want one that is a 2008 or older because I do not want pod drives and all newer Sabre’s are pod driven. However the only ones for sale have the Yanmar 6cx-gte or 6ly-etp and I’ve educated myself on those motors to the point that I’m not willing to own them but I believe I could buy the boat for $300-350k. Alternatively I could buy the sister Back Cove 41 boat with a Single Cummins QSC600 (which would be great) but no flybridge and first manufactured in 2014 so the price is $530-580k used. Legacy Yachts, before being sold, also made a 42 fly in 2005/2006 with a single Cummins QSM but there are none on the market.

So here’s the question, could I do a Cummins repower on the Sabre and have any hope of getting back any of the money when I sell… or be money ahead by not spending the 200k more on the Back Cove… or do I just wait for the next recession and then buy my 2008 Sabre that was originally built with Cummins Qsc’s? (Which there seems to be few of)

Simple answer to a simple question–NO you will not get your $$ back unless you can buy the boat for under $50K..

What you will get if the repower is done “100% Seaboard Right” is a very usable boat that would meet you needs for years to come….
