    Hi there
We have a pair of QSB 5.9 – 480’s in one of our boats, where the port engine is having some issues.
Engines have done less than 500 hours, but hour counter on port engine is living its own life. Actual engine hours is approx 480, but SC1000 rev instrument is showing hours that vary uppwards and downwards from 280 hours. (i.e. running hours figure both increases and decreases…)

Also, there are some synchronisation issues between the two engines (Glendinning system with electronic controls)
Recently we also experienced that the port engine on one occasion startet running very rough when we tried to increase the rpm. Problem disapeared when stopping and starting engine again.
Engines are model year 2009 with Smartcraft 1.0. No vessel view (SC 1000 and daisy chain gauges only). No alarms on smartcraft system. All readings are normal.

I am speculating in there being an issue with the camshaft pickup sensor, but the problem could of course also be ECM related.

Population of QSB engines where we live in Norway is very low, and as a result competent dealers are few and far between. Include those who are willing to work on pleasure craft and you are left with 1, 10 hours drive from where the boat is located.

Anybody out there who have had similar issues with their Quantum engines and who might be willing and able to share their thoughts on what the problem might be?

    Thank’s in advance.

    Best regards from Norway.

This is where you have to start………… If you look at all the wires & connections you have ( it’s a total maze with well over 200 potential connections , plugs etc etc) and every one needs to be unplugged, looked at for any dryness/ corrosion and then all sprayed with a petroleum based dielectric like WD-40, Corrosion X or ?? and then re-plugged it.. EVERY PLUG.. And push all wires into the plugs after plugging in..

    You might get lucky..

I will also mention this– You are driving blind if you don not have a good digital display.

Look around the 5 minute mark in this video.. Very applicable to your engine with only has harness ( 12 wires) from the engine to a dash with one plug in the middle.
