Hi my name is Dan I need any advice anyone can give. I will attach as many pics as the forum will let me. I like this boat and want to save it. I plan to trade my 2008 Corvette with 40K miles for it. All I currently know is the boat engine, trans, and V drive all work well do not know total hours I have been a fan of cummins and Albin. But not sure am I getting in over my head. Boat is rough but I still like it. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

She’s a single screw. Tony figured twin screw based on the size of the boat. Yes, not a lot of engine for this boat and at anything over hull speed it is always working and always trying to climb over the hump. Albin added a hull extension in later years of this model and it was renamed the 32+2. It was a molded in hull extension in the form of a swim platform to give the boat some lift. See attached.

IF you want a project, don’t mind a lot of blood on the knuckles and you got a B+ or better in “Mechanics 101” I’d say go for it at no more than $10K, if you’re looking for a number…

The super early Cummins 6BTA 250’s in the vessel have seen close to ZERO external maintenance or proper care for years or decades…”Marine Age” via Mother Nature is doing them in as I type…………………Not sure what is inside, but I’d assume you’d drop $10K on these engines getting them up to spec as to all the “hang-on components and the cooling system, and that’s if you do most of the work in-house. ………………………………..The engine room will be a “project”—Is that what you want to keep you busy for the next year?……………..Hiring out what it would need to make it all right and safe would be 2X + that.

    Dan,
Its a project! For comparison- have a look at this what appears to be a turn key boat with yanmars in your area.

    finish statement

Rob your info on the Albin engine hatches leaking is great need to know info. as to the dollar and cents value I can put value on cars and trucks very easy but find it difficult in the marine world. I have $18K in the corvette I can straight out purchase the Albin for $16K I understand math well, ha Ha but would you consider this boat worth $18K is my bottom line question. Thanks again

Looks like Albin’s 32 Sportfish, circa 1990 or so..

Those back decks leak like heck, as you can tell. Many owners cover the engine hatches with an outdoor carpet or mat of some type.

Later models went to a close-coupled reverse gear and a difference layout down below.

You ask if “it’s worth it” but you do not mention what it’s costing you to get into the boat as to total dollars, I have no idea what your trade is worth.

The big question here is : Are you a hands on guy? This will be a work-in-progress for a long long time…. not good if you have to call on people every time something goes amiss..
