Firstly, apologies as i have been away from the forums for most of the year so far. The boat has been working well thanks to everyone’s help, and we have been having a great fishing season so far. i’m just taking a a break this weekend for Easter. This time of the year is both our main fishing season, and also our baiting season when we work nights as well to catch ballyhoo.

I was just curious about the sbmar vacuum gauges, as the needle has never moved from 0 for mine. I do believe my tank is pretty clean, but I have put on about 1000 hours since the change from the Racor, so I thought the needle might have moved by now…

I can’t see i could have installed it wrong, as it seemed fool proof.

Also be aware that the drag pointer can be rotated 360 degrees, and will prevent the needle from moving in that position, usually zero.
    Donā€™t ask me how I know this….

Thank! Yes ā€“ I will remember to try that.

Did the oil/filter change yesterday, so thought I would try out your suggestion, and after about 30 secs – 1 min, the first gauge (to the tank) started to rise steadily as you said it would.
I reset the drag pointer, and we are all at 0 again. I guess that must mean the tank is pretty clean if after 700 hours (since December) we are still at 0.

    Gary,
If you want to “see” the gauges work, with the engine idling at the dock, close the valve between the tank and the filters and watch the gauges rise. Re-open the valve before then engine starves for fuel. The gauges will immediately drop back down. Remember to reset the drag pointer back to the normal position.

    Sorry for the late response.

The gauges are actually pretty much unchanged – they are just “slightly” above 0. Not sure if that is normal with a pretty clean fuel system or not…

Welcome back Gary. Looks like you never removed the yellow pin or at least flipped it to the Open position. The gauge needs to be open to the atmosphere.. See pic and zoom in, this was a new install so still had pin in and closed. Pull the yellow pin. If you want toā€seeā€ the gauge work, with the engine running close a valve behind it and watch the gauge, it will move, then be ready to open it before she stalls..,
