    Hello
I currently have a 2000 31 open Tiara with Cummns 5.9 in it. It has a Zf Transmission sure what model (sorry I am in Italy at the moment)
Is it possible to change from the manual shift valve to an electronic solenoid type valve?
I know I can get actuators to do this but I am weighing the cost options between either buying a two actuator per side system vs making this change if possible . I am going to add our joystick to the boat either way just trying to see if this is possible and also if I can make the change can troll be added?
Any Insights would be appreciated. TYIA

I switched from electronic to manual and have one block left, probably way cheaper than what ZF wants. Oops mine weren’t zf220’s.

Got pricing from ZF no bueno

So after chasing this I cannot rationalize the cost to change. Best negotiated price from ZF even with my industry discount was $3700.00 per side
Decided to just go with the Glendinning throttles and will and our Xenta joystick to the boat this way. I am sure I can fit this in my engine room somehow
    Thanks for the responses

    Thank you

    Hi Tony
I have ZF 220A Transmissions with a 1.5:1 gear ratio.
    Port Trans – 12820J
    Stbd Trans – 12821J
In reference the budget I am trying to weigh out which direction to go. I am the North American rep for Xenta Systems. I will be using our throttle and joystick on the boat.(would love to have a conversation with you about that)
We have done actuator based boats before but with my 31 open room is limited and the cost of the actuators comes in at about 1300 per side for a double actuator (both throttle and shift) my feeling is if itā€™s a bit more then Iā€™d rather convert.
Also our system uses a double can bus back up so if i convert to true electronic shift there is always a get home method. This can be done with the actuators but itā€™s not as clean.
I wil post pics as soon as I get home tomorrow
    Thanks in advance

    Gear shift type conversion

The answer to your question depends on only TWO THINGS– The exact transmission model, & then your budget for the conversion.

Need pics of the data tag and / or the gear–Pics need to be clear & in focus.. Both makes is better.

Then, I need to “SEE” your helm/ control station so I can “see” what you have now for controls..

Have you allotted not less that $1200 per gear plus for the labor & the cost for electronic controls? Are you a hands-on guy, or are you going to hire the work out?

    Tony
