Leaving the boat in the water for the winter in Rhode Island

Last time I did that in late Dec on another boat the diesel jelled and since the tanks were topped we had to spend a whole day warming up the entire boat to be able to get it to start. Good times.

Power Service has a cetane boost/antigel product that claims is is endorsed by Cummins, https://powerservice.com/psp_product/diesel-fuel-supplement-cetane-boost/

Any experience on using it? any cautions? Does it work down to say 10F? Any negative effects on filters? Any better ideas? I don’t usually add anything to my diesel except biocide.

I will be running the boat some before it gets genuinely cold, so I should be able to get it into all the fuel, filters and lines.

Hi Todd, nothing really special that you need to change filter often.Ā  This is simply a good additive.Ā  I change my primary racor every time I fill up.Ā  In my mind, it $10 on a $300 tank full of diesel.Ā  Some people think I am nuts, which I am, but I have done this for years and never have a fuel issue.

I also am religious about Power Service and it has worked very well for me.

Maybe we see each other on the high seas.Ā  Happy Thanksgiving.

    Thank you John and everyone.

I have picked up some of the Power Service and will add that today.

John Hobby, I change the primary filters regularly, but is there something about this additive that makes that even more important?Ā  (Also, I am not far from you in Buzzards Bay)

    Thanks again!

    Power Service

Hi Todd, Power Service makes a great diesel treatment for all weather here on the East Coast.Ā  They have what you need.Ā  Keep in mind always change the Racor or whatever primary filter you have often.Ā  But I have had great success with Power Service and you will not be able to talk me away from in.Ā  Check them out.Ā  Sold at the local Auto storesĀ  I am a EC guy, Tashmoo on Martha’s Vineyard.Ā  Those warm weather west coast guys, man, the life right!

Here’s what I use after some research.

Autozone recently had it at 50% off.
