I have a pair of 2007 Cummins 6BTA 5.9 330hp engines. Anytime I give it fuel I have black smoke. I have changed the air filters, checked the turbo, all air hoses for leaks, cleaned the aftercoolers and I still can not find the problem. On the starboard engine I can see black smoke coming out somewhere closer to back of engine somewhere around the belt . The port RPMā€™s comes up faster then the starboard. I had it out of the water to have the seamless seal on shaft replaced. Ever since I put my 28ā€™ Carolina classic back in the water I have had this problem. I am burning 20 to 40 extra gallons of fuel a day. A friend of mine suggested that it could be fuel filters or injectors. This problem is costing me a lot of money and time. Please someone help!

The CC 28’s and 32’s are infamous for there poor exhaust design issues allowing water back into the turbos and the tight overhead engine room space that prevents the install of safe risers. Post some good pictures of your engines and exhaust.

Post your full history of the boat, any prior issues, maintenance and exactly how you use it.

What does “cleaning the aftercoolers” mean? Be specific. And who did this work? you or ??

As to this comment: “Ever since I put my 28ā€™ Carolina classic back in the water I have had this problem” …. Was the lift operator 100% mindful to lift her bow high and let the wet exhaust system completely drain out the back before moving her and blocking her? Very important on a boat without risers and a low spillover height.

And not sure what you mean by this: “On the starboard engine I can see black smoke coming out somewhere closer to back of engine somewhere around the belt .” ??????
