June 15, 2021 at 8:44 am Hi All, Doing some clean up work on the electrical system and want to change these relays image attached) proactively, for obvious reasons. I went through the store and didn’t see them. Hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have found two on the starboard behind the aftercooler and one on the port forward of the starter. How many are there total, and does anyone have a good PN? Thx in advance! Kevin

24v to 12v QSB conversion /alarms always on

May 4, 2021 at 5:06 am Converted QSB 5.9 425hp engines from 24v to 12v three years ago, disconnected alarms because they were constantly on for no apparent reason. All information ( oil pressure , temp , load , etc) was accurate and being displayed. The only code that was showing up was ālow voltage 13.7ā . I was informed that I should change the SIM modules on the engines . I changed the SIM modules and the low voltage code was gone however , when I connected the ala…
5 RepliesMay 5, 2021 at 5:22 pm OK, so if you connect the buzzer… the alarm always SOUNDS? There a LOT of the silver 1.5 VesselView screens that the internal alarm relay would remain “stuck” and the buzzer never went off… I think I have 2-3 of these units labeled “Stuck Buzzer”… Not much you can do…..

September 27, 2020 at 2:17 pm I have been renovating a 2010 Sabre 42 HT Express with QSB425’s with Zues ZF Pods. Installed new 2020 Raymarine Axium Screens, radar and dual transducers. My VesselView screens are the v1.5 circa 2007-2014 vintage. While my autopilot and skyhook work well on the cummins-merc control pad, I cannot get the autopilot to talk to the Axium system for ‘Go To” GPS data. Have the recommended gateways, but, no connect. April 1, 2021 at 2:40 am Hi there. Hopefully a simple one. Iām replacing old analog tachs with newer 2nd hand vdo gauges that donāt have dip switches built in but do have an 8 station dip switch module I have 6bta 159 tooth flywheels and magnetic pickups. The question is, I see on the site the beede tach dip switch settings but 1. Is this the same for the VDO tach? 2. Can I use the 8 station dip switch module or do I need the 10 station dip switch module as per the sb…
1 ReplyApril 6, 2021 at 5:26 am Every tach design/adjustment mechanism is DIFFERENT………… Some tachs don’t even have any provisions for adjustment. No clue what you bought of if it is even compatible with your engine/mag pick-up.

210hp 6BT Relay control whilst engine running
This topic has 2 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
March 24, 2021 at 5:21 am Hello I have a 210hp 6BT with a CAV injector pump I am wanting to control a 12v 100a NO relay that has a pull in current of around 200mA, I need this relay to be energized while the engine is running (to control a B2B charger connected between my start battery and the lifepo4 house battery) please note I can not use a VSR. What would be the best idea for wiring a control wire for the rely? I was thinking off the fuel pump solenoid? or is t…
2 RepliesMarch 24, 2021 at 7:04 pm If all of your current engine wiring is 100% up tp spec, and your relay only draws 200mA, you can use the ignition circuit (Purple key output wire) at the helm station to control it. Put the relay and the added circuit on a 1-2 Amp fuse fast blow fuse….

It used to work but recently stopped. I don’t know if this a problem with a setting in the display or if it is failing. Any advice from your experience would be appreciated.

Flush Mounting w/ Custom Template
This topic has 6 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
January 22, 2021 at 8:45 am Thought some may find this handy when flush mounting. Working on a DC project and needed to get this panel mounted in an overlay board. There is very little reveal around the panel perimeter and a lot of in and outs as what needs to be cut in, not simply straight like mounting an MFD or the like. The four corner crew hole placements leave no room for error. The panel has a bit of weight to it so I wanted to be sure to leave as much plywood sur…

Bill, to follow-up on your post… I labeled each circuit as I pulled apart the old breaker box. The circuits were terminated and fed to the new panel. The grounds went to a new common bus. February 22, 2021 at 5:51 pm I just bought a 2008 bertram 410 with cummins qsc 8.3’s. The shifter located on the bottom right next to the salon door, the two buttons on the left side are not working, looks like something like acid made contact with them. Does any of you know if this can be repaired or do i need to replace the whole shifter? If I need to replace it, do you have any idea of cost? Thanks so much!
2 RepliesFebruary 22, 2021 at 10:22 pm The keypad can be replaced. Send the whole shifter back to glendenning… they area great people to work with. Phil

Replacing Starter Battery
This topic has 5 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
February 7, 2021 at 3:21 pm Hi Gang, My “official” first post, but I’ve learned a ton so far just by reading previous threads. My boat has a 6BTA 220hp engine. The specs call for start battery with 1188CCA and 160min reserve. I’d like to replace the large 4D battery with something smaller and am considering 2 Lifeline G24 batteries (GPL-2400T) wired in parallel. Does this make sense? I’d love to be able to use just a single Group 31 battery fo…

November 22, 2020 at 8:02 am I have a QSB 6.7 with C Command primier connected to NMEA 2000 network for Garmin plotter. I have it connected to the NMEA 2000 port on wiring harness, not CIB. January 17, 2021 at 1:04 am HI all, I hope that someone can help with a problem I have with starting my Cummins QSB 5.9 turbo engines. I dry docked my boat to perform annual maintenance and avoid cyclones and when I went to put her back in the water came up with this problem. The port engine started fine but the starboard engine clicked as though the battery was a little below power. I replaced the batteries and then neither would start. Nothing! Not even a click. I ha…
4 RepliesJanuary 20, 2021 at 1:27 pm What is the EXACT fault information? Need a fault code to be able to help… It does appear that you have a Mercury DTS throttle and shift control system which is MERCURY even though the processor is an EEC Glendinning.

January 15, 2021 at 9:28 am I have a 1999 Maxum 4600 SCB with twin 6BTA 5.9M2 Cummins diesel engines. There are two alarms, one port and the other starboard at the helm. These alarms will go off (sometimes port, sometimes starboard) when the boat is on plane, usually running at 2700 rpm. I have checked water temp, oil pressure and all are normal. I do not want to disable these alarms. Do you have any suggestions?
2 RepliesJanuary 16, 2021 at 2:32 pm Thanks for your reply. I will go back and check with the Maxum forum. I do have access to the wiring schematics so we can take a look at that. Thank you.

November 18, 2020 at 3:37 pm I am putting a pair of QSB 425 RTO in a boat here in Panama and I am really trying to understand what electronic display I could install economically. The engines are Smartcraft V1.0 and are coming with the smartcraft harness. Is there an easy way to pull the J1939 out of the smartcraft junction box and run it to the VDO Oceanlink display. Marine Batteries 8D Bank
This topic has 3 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
October 19, 2020 at 9:19 am I have a bank of three 8D marine batteries and I new charger. The batteries are now 5-6 years old. I seem to be running down my house battery rather quickly. Before I go out and buy new batteries I would like to get more knowledge on this. First what is the best way to test the batteries to see if I do in fact need new batteries? What is the average life of 8Ds? and Do I need to replace them all at once or can I just get one at a time new?
3 RepliesOctober 20, 2020 at 5:36 am You can check the fluid with a hydrometer. You can check battery condition with a load tester. If they are in a bank they should be changed altogether. Life expectancy is dependent on how you use (or abuse) them…. Proper watering and your frequency and depth of discharge. You mention that you “seem” to be running them down??? Are you driving blind or are you monitoring them like this: https://www.sbmar.com/articles/installing-…

Mercury smartcraft replacement
This topic has 16 replies, has 6 voices, and was last updated by 3 years ago
May 14, 2019 at 7:28 pm I am interested in replacing my Mercury marine smart craft computer. I have a 2009 Meridian with twin 5.9 cummins diesels. I have been told that because I also have a DTS throttle control system that I cannot replace the smart craft with an after market system. Is that true? What are my options? Thanks, Jon Arnold

The system referenced above will replace everything SmartCraft on your boat physically including the harnessing and start/stop key(s), etc.
