    • Strange SMX Turbocator gauge readings

June 21, 2023 at 2:28 pm I’ve got a set of SMX Turbocator gauges on the 1969 Chris Craft Roamer I’ve been refitting. In preparation for finally launching the boat, I test fired the engines recently. I’m still on the hard, with no raw water source, so I removed the impellers and only ran the engines for ~10 seconds. Ever since, one of the gauges has the EGT needle sitting at ~800 all the time. The other gauge is at the low pin, where the other one used …

July 9, 2023 at 11:56 am Hi all. Been having this problem for a couple of years now. I have changed my fuel filters regularly and cleaned and pressure checked the aftercoolers. My motors are 6bta-m2 300 hp. It’s a 32 luhrs and props are 18×24 with a little cup. Not sure how much off hand. A well known prop shop tuned them beginning of last year. Seams like the turbos don’t really spool until 1800 plus rpms and some smoke clears up but I leave a trail of…

July 8, 2023 at 6:09 pm Change the grease fittings every few years, 2 – 4 yrs. They are available in brass , plated steel or SS only so are not highly seawater resistant. You don’t want them corroding into place,Ā  Ā  remove them long before.Ā  Use a good thread sealer such as Rectorseal #5.Ā  Ā  Ā    Even that plug is likely brass only so likely will waste away over enough time.Ā Ā    JMO
