November 21, 2021 at 12:37 pm Hi I have a 28 Albemarle with a single KAD 300 and DPG with jackshaft and the engine requires rebuild. An obvious choice to repower would be a D6 with new drive. Would a Cummins Recon QSB 5.9 be made to work easily as an alternative? … or? Thanks.

November 25, 2021 at 11:07 pm Cummins motors eat Volvo outdrive s for breakfast, lunch, an dinner. Too few revs and way too much torque make it a bad combination. Even with Volvo engine-Volvo outdrive combinations they do not hold up well when used hard. If youā€™re dead set on Cummins power, a V-drive or straight shaft configuration might be preferable to stern drive.

October 15, 2021 at 2:45 am 99%+ of all Factory supplied 6CTA 8.3 marine engines have SAE#3 housings and SAE 11.5″ flywheels. However, that can be changed to SAE 2/11.5″ or even SAE#1/14″…. The old ZF310 may or may not be readily adapted to SAE#3…………That’s a big gear & has been out of production for 20+ yrs?? The “adapter plate” would be a ZF part, not a Cummins part.

October 12, 2021 at 6:43 am So I need to do the sea trial with some borrowed 4-blade propellers (I hope to get whoever has them, or similar) and thus know the performance of my boat in WOT. Then it would be to buy the 4-blade propellers. What is more recommended, and if you think better, which brand? Are used at a good price, where and who could sell them used? I think maybe of having 22 x 22 x 2 to have some idea of ā€‹ā€‹costs for the 2 propellers

But with that said, realistically, you need to thing $150-250 K to do a proper repower , and I have not clue if that is a budget you could work with. You could also also look at 6BTA 5.9 330/370 Diamonds and probably use you old gears if you work with the right techs–You’d save at least 50K going that direction…………………In gen…

Typically we cruise at 11 to 12 knots, the hull is SD design, and I find that at that speed the boat ā€˜sits upā€™ a little better (compared to say 8 knots) and the Naiad stabilisers are just that bit more effective/quick to catch the roll.
